The following is taken from the Annual Report year ending March 2007. The figures for the Annual Report year ending March 2008 are not available until the June AGM.
Statistics for the year – total of 11,752 social policy category enquiries (new and repeat).
• Of these, the vast majority were regarding DEBT, with an average of 425 enquiries per month.
• The second most popular were BENEFIT enquiries, averaging 161 enquiries a month.
• EMPLOYMENT and HOUSING issues averaged at 79 and 61 per month respectively.
• Overall the least amount of enquires were for EDUCATION.
8% of the total enquiries were given leaflets or other information relative to their problem under SIGNPOSTING.
Other issues were consumer goods and services, immigration, relationship and legal matters.
30 volunteers gave 7,290 hours of their time to help continue to provide a free service for our community.
Janice Evans, Social Police Co-ordinator, volunteer was awarded the prestigious award “Volunteer of the Year” for her work in social policy campaigning. She was presented with her award by HRH the Princess Royal and also feted at a ceremony at 10 Downing Street.
In addition to 26 hours of face to face drop in advice each week at the three locations (Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley), and 8 hours of telephone advice, the service offered 13 hours a week specialist appointments in two bases at Community Housing, County Court, Edward Parry Centre, Northumberland House Doctors' Surgery, and Money Advice appointments at Stourport.
Financial stability is paramount for the future of the organisation and CAB could not continue to offer its service free to our community without the financial support of Wyre Forest District Council, Worcestershire County Council, Stourport and Bewdley Town Councils, amongst many others who support them in donations, however small and in kind.
