WYRE FOREST DISTRICT COUNCIL
ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2007/08

COUNCILLOR DIXON SHEPPARD

WARD – LICKHILL
Activities

During my second year as a Wyre Forest District Councillor, I have continued to deal with a number of queries, complaints and problems, ranging from over-grown trees, missing re-cycling bins, flooding of roads and problems with the establishment of a golf course at Burlish Top.

My attendance at the main council meetings has been 100%, and have asked numerous questions. I have also an excellent attendance record at both the Licensing and Environmental Committee (including Taxi Trade Liaison sub-committee), along with the Miscellaneous Functions Committee. I have tried to offer constructive comment as appropriate. I have continued to deputise for colleagues on other committees.

I was appointed to the Mitton/Lickhill Partnership and Communities Together (PACT) Committee and have assisted particularly the problems relating to Stourport Memorial Park, with under-age drinking and litter.

I also attended the meeting at Duke House when young people had the opportunity of meeting the Councillors and listening to the young people's views. As the Council's representative on the Stourport Social Day Centre Management Committee, I have been able to assist them with a number of problems, some of them council related.

I was present on two Council “tours” one dealing with Planning and the other with Environmental issues.

My voluntary role with the Severn Valley Railway has continued as a uniformed Travelling Ticket Inspector, and was quick off the mark to help in obtaining Wyre Forest District Council assistance for the devastating floods which hit the railway on 19th June. I have of late also been assisting them at the newly opened Engine House.

Along with my wife, Janice, I was delighted to have the opportunity of attending the Buckingham Palace Garden Party in July.

Health issues continue to be important to me. I have attended the Worcestershire Acute Hospital Board meetings, asking numerous questions mainly relating to Kidderminster Hospital, and keeping up the pressure for additional emergency services to be provided at Kidderminster. I also attended a County Health Scrutiny Committee as an observer, when local issues were being discussed.

Achievements during the year

Drawing attention to the empty shop and business premises in Stourport Town Centre, and obtaining action in getting many re-occupied and trading in the near future.

The state of the roads in Stourport has continued to deteriorate and at least there is now, following my intervention and action through Stourport Town Council, a firm commitment by the County Council to re-surface a large number of the worst roads in February/March 2009.
