Notes:
ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2010/11
Ward Activities this year, including outside bodies:
I have continued to be an active panel member of the Lickhill and Mitton PACT (Partners and Communities Together) as well as the two PACT meetings at Stourport High School. I have also continued to serve on the Committee of Campaign Action Newtown (CAN) as well as helping at their “Party in the Park” In September. A lot of time has been spent sorting out the problems at the Elizabeth Mills Centre (formerly Stourport Social Day Centre) following the resignation of the Chairman and other Committee members. I am the Wyre Forest District Council's representative on the Trustee Committee and have also been the President in my capacity as Mayor of Stourport. I have had difficult public meetings to Chair but I am now pleased to report that a new very active Chairman, Karen Butler has been appointed together with some new Trustees, who are determined that the Centre should succeed whilst maintaining most of the current activities, also introducing new ones. The finances need to be kept under close scrutiny, however a recent “bag pack” at the Co-op in Stourport raised nearly £1,500 and there will be a further similar amount to follow from my Mayoral Charity Fund.
Highlights:
The main highlight was the honour of being elected Mayor of Stourport, along with my wife Janice, the Mayoress, we have attended some 140 functions and meetings in Stourport, Kidderminster, Bewdley and Worcestershire. At the dinner in late September to celebrate the Carnival of our twin town Villeneuve-le-Roi, just outside Paris, I managed to deliver a short speech in French.
The second highlight was being re-elected as a District Councillor for Lickhill in May 2010.
Special Knowledge:
My insurance/financial services background continues to be useful on occasions. Whilst never having had any formal training, I do appear to have a knack of bringing “warring parties together” particularly at the Elizabeth Mills Centre.
Attendance Percentage for 2010/11
83% (subject to the Sports & Leisure Centre Review Panel meeting to be held on 17th May 2011). My attendance at Wyre Forest District Council meetings has been affected by my Mayoral duties.
