WYRE FOREST DISTRICT COUNCIL
ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2007/08

COUNCILLOR JENNY GREENER

WARD – BEWDLEY AND ARLEY

Activities

Since my election in May 2007 my main focus has been getting to know the job, my ward and receiving training. I have attended several committees over the year and have become a trustee for the Citizen's Advice Bureau.

I attended a meeting in Worcester discussing the future of library and mobile library provision and have been on two tours of Wyre Forest looking at leisure facilities and regeneration proposals. I recently took part in an enjoyable evening event meeting young people in the Kidderminster district in a “Meet the Member” event.

Council Activities

I sit on the Community and Regeneration Scrutiny Committee, covering such topics as conservation area reviews, telecommunication mast operators, the future of the Lea Castle Centre, development of the West Midlands rail network and the Children and Young Peoples Plan, to name but a few.

The Licensing and Environmental Committee, whose remit includes licensing of Hackney Carriages and their drivers, gaming machines, and sex shops.

No Barriers Review Panel, helping to put together the first annual awards criteria, appointing the awards panel and being part of the team designing all the paperwork.

I am also a member of the Bewdley Museum Management Committee and the main achievement this year, (although I only joined after all the hard work had been done) was hearing that the Museum has been successful in their Lottery bid.

I became a Governor of Bewdley Primary school late last year.

Achievements

As a new Councillor I have been settling into the role, and learning a lot. My first success, was to organise a dog litterbin at the end of a local footpath. I have facilitated having hedges cut back, drains unblocked, parking issues, supporting the successful appeal against the installation of a mobile phone mast at a junction in Bewdley, visiting sites with planning queries and other local issues.

I have attended Town and Parish Council meetings as well as ceremonies and celebrations and enjoyed them all.
