Notes:
WYRE FOREST DISTRICT COUNCIL
ANNUAL REPORT OF ACTIVITIES 2009/10
COUNCILLOR: David Millis
WARD: Mitton
Section 1: Ward Activities (including Surgeries)
My main activities in the ward, apart from dealing with the many queries from constituents, have been my work in assisting/encouraging schemes for Stourport Youth through initiatives with Community Action Newtown (CAN) and West Mercia Community Police to provide a Youth Café, drop in centre in Stourport.
I assisted and encouraged the setting up of an action group of parents wanting to renew the play area at The Slad, Wilden Top.
I continue working in the background to help and extend the ‘Party In the Park' at Stourport, and all Youth Programmes as part of ‘YourS' group.
I am a Vice Chair of Governors of two primary schools, namely Stourport Primary School and Burlish Park Primary School. I play a very active role in all aspects of the governance of the two excellent schools.
I am a Trustee and Secretary to the Friends of Bishop's Wood, which is responsible for organising
twelve events throughout the year, all child and parent orientated, but with a bias towards living in a sustainable way.
I have recently become a Trustee of the Stourport Social Day Centre which forms an important part of looking after Stourport's older residents. This work compliments my work with the youth of the area. I am actively trying to promote visits by primary and secondary pupils to the centre as part of the schools work in the community.
I am a Member of the Building Schools for Future Parents and Community Consultation Group looking at all aspects of what role Stourport High School could play in Extended Services and Community Cohesion.
I am a Trustee and Committee Member of the Queen Elizabeth 1 Foundation, and am actively involved in all decisions regarding Grant Applications.
I am a regular panel member of the Lickhill and Mitton Partners & Communities Together (PACT), which again plays an import role in meeting my constituents.
Section 2: Council Meetings
Audit, Community & Regeneration Scrutiny Committee, Council, Employment & Economic Prospects Review Panel, Kidderminster Educational Foundation, Local Development Framework Core Strategy Review Panel, Renewable Energy & Efficiency Review Panel
Section 3: Achievements
As is apparent from Section 1 my main thrust of my work is in promoting facilities for both young and the elderly and trying to encourage a sense of community for all.
Section 4: Special Knowledge
I am an Architect by profession and have been promoting and researching sustainable construction for some 25 years.
I am at present an active member of the Renewable Energy and Efficiency Review Panel.
My expertise has been particularly useful in my work on the Community and Regeneration Scrutiny Committee.
My expertise could also be used in the preparation of the single site project brief and all aspects of sustainable construction.
Section 5: Attendance Percentage for 2009/10
87%.
